Livewire: The lights are back up, as promised. Welcome to The Benches. Tonight: the map of the world. Which countries Counter-Strike has crowned, which it keeps missing, and which just arrived.

Sunshine: This is my episode. Every country is one good week away from its first!

The Ledger: Some of them have been one good week away for a decade.

▶ THE TAPE The droughts: China and Germany

China: 25 Chinese players have played Valve Majors, with TYLOO, Lynn Vision, Rare Atom and others. None has ever reached the playoffs. The best finish is TYLOO's 12-14 at London 2018.1

Germany: 22 German players at Majors, and never a Major final. The best result is a single semifinal (JDC with MOUZ at Rio 2022). BIG, Germany's flagship, peaked at 5-8.1

Sunshine: refusing to accept "none"Ledger: pointing at "none"

Sunshine: Twenty-five players! That's twenty-five chances! The twenty-sixth is going to do it!

The Ledger: That's not how probability works.

Sunshine: It's how hope works.

Footnote: One thread worth keeping: Attacker played six Majors for China, then went on to coach TYLOO. The people who got closest are now teaching the next ones.1

CHINA: 25 MAJOR PLAYERS · 0 PLAYOFFS · (SO FAR)

▶ THE TAPE The arrival: Turkey

IEM Cologne 2026: Aurora, with MAJ3R, soulfly, Wicadia, woxic and XANTARES, all Turkish, reach the semifinal. It's Turkey's best Major result ever. The previous best was 5-8, twice.2

MAJ3R's career spans twenty years, including a detour: he left for VALORANT in 2021 and came back to CS the next year. And Turkish orgs took both $1.25 million PGL Bucharest titles: Aurora in 2025, FUT in 2026. FUT then reached the Esports World Cup 2026 final.2

Dusty: nodding at "twenty years"Sunshine: standing up

Dusty: Twenty years. I remember when the Turkish scene was a handful of LAN cafés and a lot of shouting. Now they're in a Major semifinal with five of their own.

Livewire: MAJ3R leaves for VALORANT and comes back. What does a man learn in another game that makes him come home?

Footnote: That the other game has a different Dust II. And it isn't the same.

▶ THE TAPE The rocket: Mongolia

April 2023: The MongolZ leave their organization and carry on with no org at all. Mongolia's first Major playoff comes at Shanghai 2024. Its first Major final at Austin 2025 (lost 2-1 to Vitality). Then they win the Esports World Cup 2025 in Riyadh.3

19 Mongolian players have now played Majors. And in 2026, two of those Esports World Cup champions, Senzu and mzinho, were sold to BC.Game.3

W.Warrior: mouthing "no org?"Prosecutor: circling "sold"

Weekend Warrior: Wait, you can just... play without a team owning you? Why doesn't everybody do that?

The Ledger: Because most of them don't reach a final.

The Prosecutor: And the ones who do get bought. I've seen this pattern before. It's on my board under "success, punishment for."

Quick round: the firsts

Livewire: Kosovo!

Footnote: Bad News Eagles, three straight Majors, much of it with no org. Six Kosovar players have now played Majors. makazze reached a Major semifinal with NaVi; Krabeni won PGL Bucharest 2026 with FUT.4

Livewire: Taiwan!

Footnote: One Major player: Marek, who was his team's assistant coach. See Episode 3.4

Livewire: Finland, Romania and Lithuania!

The Ledger: All three got their first Major titles on the same day: NaVi's Copenhagen 2024 roster had five players from four countries. Finland had lost two finals before that.4

Livewire: Bulgaria!

Footnote: Windigo beat AGO in the $890,000 WESG 2018 final. Neither team ever reached a Major playoff.4

Dusty's segment: the nation nobody puts on the map

Livewire: Dusty asked for this segment specifically. Dusty, you have the floor.

Dusty: Everyone draws the map of Counter-Strike and leaves off the women's circuit. So here it is. FURIA's women's team won 42 titles, 41 of them between 2020 and 2024. The next best are Yarp with 23 and Shimmer with 22. CLG Red won 14, including the women's events at WESG 2018 and 2019. NAVI Javelins won the IESF Female World Championship in 2022.5

Dusty: And a lot of those players left for VALORANT's women's circuit when it launched in 2021, and a lot of them came back. That's a whole storyline nobody tells.5

Footnote: ...I have that in my files.

Dusty: You have it in your files. You've never opened the file.

Footnote: Opening it now. Live. On air.

(The studio applauds. Footnote does not look up from the file for the rest of the episode.)

FLIP BOARD · Sunshine presents: The map, the way it should be drawn

CHALLENGE The Map Pick

The setup: Premier's new map selection, played live in the studio with a pool Livewire made up. Team A (Sunshine, Footnote, Dusty) against Team B (The Ledger, The Prosecutor, Weekend Warrior). Whichever team's pick gets drawn wins.

] the real mechanics
Since this week's Rush Hour update: Team 1 picks one map, Team 2 picks two, Team 1 picks a final map, and then one of the four is chosen at random. It replaced the old ban phase.6
Dusty
Team A, first pick: Dust II. "Obviously."
➜ Not drawn.
The Ledger
Team B: Mirage, "the statistically safest pick."
➜ Not drawn.
Weekend Warrior
Team B: Anubis, "because it looked new." (It was reworked in January.)
➜ Not drawn.
Sunshine★ MVP
Team A, final pick: Inferno, "for luck."
🏆 DRAWN.
The Prosecutor
Demands to inspect the random number generator.
➜ Request denied.
FootnoteSPECTATING
Abstained, noting for the record that the ban phase is gone for good.
➜ Abstained
STANDINGSA four-way tie: Dusty, The Prosecutor, Weekend Warrior and Sunshine, one win each. The Ledger is now the only competitor without a win, and has requested a recount of a contest that had no votes.

Sunshine: Luck is a strategy! It's in the patch notes now!

The Ledger: Randomness is in the patch notes. Luck is not a strategy.

Sunshine: Agree to disagree! I have a trophy!

HOPES BOARD · for a story that's still being written

Which country's first comes next?

DustyLedgerSunshineProsecutorW.WarriorFootnote

Dusty: The women's circuit, on the main stage, as the headline and not the side event.

The Ledger: Germany: one final. My model needs a data point that isn't zero.

Sunshine: China's first playoff run, and I want to be there, and I want to cry.

The Prosecutor: Mongolia: that the next roster gets to stay together long enough to find out how good it is.

Weekend Warrior: Turkey. They were so close. I want to see what "all Turkish, and they won" looks like.

Footnote: That I finish reading the file Dusty handed me before next episode.

Line of the night

"You have it in your files. You've never opened the file."

— Dusty

Next time: the Dynasties special. The Polish core that won under five names. The forgotten first draft of the Astralis dynasty. The coach with more Majors than any player. And The Ledger finally gets to explain the one statistic about roster changes everyone gets wrong.

Worth arguing about: which country's first is coming next: China's playoffs, Germany's final, or Turkey's title?

Argue it out in the discussion thread. That's where this actually gets resolved.
